Panel Investigating Secondary School Virginity Test Submits Result





The panel set up to investigate allegations of unlawful administration of virginity test on 10  students in Ogun on Tuesday  submitted its report.

The students were of Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon,  Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state Ministry of Education had set up a five-man panel of enquiry to investigate the allegations and submit its report within  two weeks.


A statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta  by the Press Officer in  the ministry, Mr Kayode Oduyebo, said the report was submitted to the Commissioner for Education, Mr Segun Odubela.

The statement quoted  the Chairman of the panel, Mr Idowu Adeniji,  as saying that the committee obtained both oral and written evidences from community leaders in Ajuwon,  including students and other members of the public.

According to Adeniji, the panel ensured that equal opportunities were given to individuals that appeared before it at the sitting.

He urged the commissioner to carefully study the recommendations in order to forestall future occurrence.

Receiving the report which was in four volumes, Odubela thanked members of the panel for completing the assignment  within the stipulated time frame.

 He assured parents, students and other members of the public that were directly affected that justice would be served and that the final decision would be announced soon.

 It would be recalled that the principal of the school, Mrs Olufunke Aladeojobi, on Dec. 10, 2012, allegedly invited a nurse to conduct virginity test on the  female students without the consent of their parents or guardians.
