Chelsea Stunned By Swansea At The Bridge

Chelsea vs Swansea City - Capital One, Michu

Chelsea suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Swansea City in the first-leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The Blues dominated for much of the game but were toothless in front of goal while two horrendous errors from Branislav Ivanovic at the other end gave the Swans a superb result.

Ramires had the first good chance of the game 11 minutes in when Eden Hazard put a brilliant pass through to the midfielder but after skipping a defender, the Brazilian's poke at goal did not have enough power to beat the goalkeeper.

Hazard continued to be a handful for the visitors and he put the ball on a plate for Juan Mata in the 26th minute but the Spaniard uncharacteristically fired straight at the goalkeeper.

Oscar then picked out Mata four minutes later but the midfielder fizzed his shot just wide and the Swans would pounce eight minutes later. Ivanovic was robbed of possession after a poor first touch and Michu picked up the ball before curling a superb finish past Ross Turnbull.

The defender tried to make amends at the other end with a curling strike but Gerhard Tremmel palmed it away on the dive. The Swansea goalkeeper continued to stand firm after the break by preventing David Luiz from finding the back of the net.

Chelsea introduced Demba Ba with nine minutes to go and he looked alert straight away as he was found by Ivanovic but his header went straight to the goalkeeper. The Senegal forward then nodded another chance just wide moments later. Ivanovic's night would go from bad to worse in stoppage time though when he went for a blind backpass which was picked up by Danny Graham who slammed the ball into an empty net. Ba would beat Tremmel before the final whistle but he was denied by the offside flag as Swansea grabbed a two-goal advantage ahead of the second-leg at the Liberty Stadium.
