Fire guts Ondo FRCN station

Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Positive FM, station in Akure was gutted by fire on Thursday, which destroyed some vital equipment.

Our correspondent learnt that the inferno started around 6.40am when the station had barely commenced transmission.

The fire was said to have started from a switch in the engineering department.

Many equipment in the department were completely razed before the fire could be put out.
The General Manager, Mr. Olusegun Ayankoso, who conducted reporters round the damaged facilities, said the station would not be able to transmit because of the extent of the damage.
He said, “Facilities like Automatic Voltage Regulator, audio cable, electrical cable, air conditioner and internet cables were destroyed by the inferno.

“The fire was put out by the people on duty who prevented it from escalating.”
Ayankoso added that firefighters arrived on time to save the situation.

Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, described the development as “unfortunate”.
He said, “The state government would assist the station to come back on stream as early as possible.”
Akimade also urged the Federal Government to rehabilitate the damaged facilities.
