PhD, MBA holders among 13, 000 applicants that applied for Dangote truck driving jobs

The Dangote Group has said that PhD and MBA Holders were among the over 13,000 applicants who applied for the recent Graduate Executive Truck Driver vacancy.

The company said it was satisfied with the quality and quantity of applications they have received, stating that its plan was to empower its Graduate Executive Truck Drivers.

Chairman of the company and Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote revealed this on Thursday in Abuja at a World Bank Youth Forum.

The forum organized by the Coordinator, Rotimi Olawale and headed by the World Bank Country Director, Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly, was set up to engage the government, business men and women in order to share business ideas and development that can impact positively on Nigeria and Africa.

During a chat with the participants, Aliko Dangote encouraged them to be hardworking, prudent and re-invest in business rather than spend profits.

The GCON holder who shared how he nurtured the Dangote group from a small business in 1978 to one of the largest conglomerates in Africa added that the group’s vision was “to become the largest company in Africa, amongst the top 100 countries in the world and to be worth up to $75 billion by 2017.”

He explained that only 1000 drivers were needed and that the idea behind recruiting graduates was to eventually make them self dependent.

Dangote said the drivers get trip allowances on each trip along with their salaries and that they will own the trucks at no interests or repayments after accomplishing 300, 000 kilometres.

On his philanthropy and farming investment, the magnate said, “It is not always about money but how do I always give back to the community? And agriculture is the best business to help give back”
“Food isn’t cheap, so the earlier we start looking at it as a business, the better”.

The Dangote Group is presently involved in Sugar, Rice and palm oil farming, a venture its Chairman disclosed will create additional 150, 000 jobs within the next 5 years.

Dangote advised the youths and business owners that the key factors to success are focus, determination and integrity.

  1. Those PhD holders are disgrace to the institutions they graduated from. But I strongly believe their certificates are from these unregulated online degree awarding institutions. If at he saying the truth

  3. Mr Anonymous 1,
Stay there and be complaining. There is dignity in labour 300000 km is like going to Yola from Lagos 150 time. At an average of 4 trips per month, that could be achieved in 36 months.
What does he get in return, A truck worth more than 7Million Naira to jumpstart his life.
Will the PhD ,give him income without working?

  4. That anonymous number 1 is really ill. You think thats only happening in Nigeria? its world over - global economic meltdown is GLOBAL. People are having to think outside the box now. stay in you cheap job and be talking nonsense, ok? They are doing what they have to do make ends meet. Education is not a guarantee to income or wealth, it is to open your mind and broaden your horizon. It would have been ideal for a Ph.D holder to be in the academia or some research institute, but my dear, it doesnt exactly work out these days. Those applicants are trying to get their foot in the door. I have a friend here in the UK, that i encouraged a lawyer friend of mine to start making moimoi (cos her's tastes better than the one sold in Biobak Abuja). She took the idea cos Barrister is a big title that doesn't really matter in this day and age we are in. She started that and now supplies all sorts of outfits and events with that and so far, so good - she's self-employed with smth as silly as moimoi making! And she's still heading somewhere with it. Next i will hear is she supplies UN Summit with that. She had to think outside the box - try something not so conventional and expected. Thankfully she enjoys cooking.

Pls stop putting your head and mind in a box, ok? It doesnt really help these days. So if they dont find jobs in academia or govt as file carriers, what should they do? come to you to help fix them up?

And you also think Ph.D from the online schls is shit? You are so uninformed. Goodluck with you!
