Man rapes 12 yr-old girl, lures her with an apple

A Local Government staff of Okposi Development Centre in Ebonyi State, Hon. Chieze Nwankwo was, Tuesday, reported to have allegedly raped a 12 year-old girl names withheld who resides in his compound.

The incident which had received a lot of condemnation from the people of the area was said to have been reported to the police station in the area and later transferred to Obiozara Police Station for proper investigation.

Vanguard Newspaper learnt that the victim, a primary six pupil of Umunoka Primary School, Okposi, was lured by Hon. Nwankwo with an apple when she went to fetch water to take her bath.

Narrating her ordeal in the hands of the rapist, the victim explained that the accused lured her with an apple and that before she knew what was happening, he had removed her clothes and over powered her.

"When I took my bucket to fetch water at the well, Hon.  Chieze called me to his house and said I should come and collect an apple. I went in to collect the apple and asked him whether he too would also eat but before I could understand what was happening, he quickly pulled off his clothes, pushed me to the ground and fell on top of me.

"I told him to get off me but he refused and I started crying but there was nobody in the compound until my mother started calling me. I told him that my mother was calling me but he refused to listen until my mother came and pushed the door open. And as soon as he saw my mother he used speed, took his towel and told my mother that it was an apple he wanted to give to me"

The father of the victim, Mr. Peter Ogbonnaya who is a motorcycle mechanic wondered why such immoral act should be committed against his daughter and called on the state government, Non Governmental Organizations, NGOs and relevant security agencies in the country to come to the aid of the family, so that, appropriate punishment could be meted out on the culprit.

Meanwhile, the mother of the victim, Mrs. Nnena Nwankwo was said to have taken her daughter to Okposi general hospital where medical examinations had been conducted to ascertain the health state of her daughter.

She said: "As my daughter went to take her bath, Mr. Nwankwo who was in front of my shop, said I should give him something to eat. So, I gave him what he wanted.  After eating, he said he wanted to go and see whether his chicken was outside. So, he left but I never knew he was after my daughter. When my daughter went to fetch water at the well that was when he lured her.

"So after a while, I started calling my daughter to know whether she had finished taking her bath but I didn't hear her voice. I traced her to the well where she had gone to fetch water and saw her slippers at the door of Hon. Nwankwo. I now pushed the door and immediately the honourable quickly got up, gathered his towel and dashed out immediately. I raised alarm and told my husband about it"
When reporters visited the police post where the matter was first reported, the Investigation Police Officer, IPO, (name withheld) who confirmed the incident said the matter had been transferred to Obiozara police station for proper investigation to ascertain whether the allegation of rape against the local government staff were genuine or not.

As at the time of this report, the culprit who is a Management Committee member in charge of Works department in Okposi Development Centre was alleged to have been released from police custody by some of his colleagues.

  1. This is very sad. Why do some men stoop so low to the level of animals? I pray he gets a matching punishment.

  3. The man acted badly. Period!
The girl too is a runs girl(Dont mind her age cos younger ones than her also commits)I pity the parent anyway.

    Lets look at it crittically
He asked her to come and take apple,
She asked him if he too will eat apple (Quite unusual for an innocent child)
He removed his cloth quickly and pounced on her (what was she waiting for when he started removing his clothes since the door was not locked)
She asked him to get off her but he refused
She started to cry and there was non in the compound to help (ok)
Her mother started calling and she told him that her mother is calling her (So that she can creep out without hte mother knowing, abi?)

The seemingly young girl is an accomplice to the crime. Its now taken as rape case cos the mother caught them red handed.
Some of these girls that you considered as young based on the constitution which stipulate 18 years are even more sexually active than adults.
All we should know is that the foundation of most family today is rotten. Children have been over-exposed to immorality and it is telling on the society today. When this rot manifests, ppl will start screaming as if it is an unexpected thing. If the society plant orange, they should be raedy to reap orange and not apple. What the man and the girl did are the normal thing that happen in a society where morals have been swept under the carpet and we must be ready to tolerate it otherwise, let us all change.

  5. You have spoken well. Some parents are too careless concerning their female girls. Although, there is no amount of monitoring but it can be minimized.

  6. Thank you October 4, 2012 1:12 PM

The parent names shouldn't have been mentioned if the girl was to remain anonymous.

I believe there is only one Mr. Peter Ogbonnaya, with a 12 years old daughter.
