Armed robbers invade fuel station on Lagos-Ibadan expressway, kill four people

A gang of armed robbers on Sunday night killed two policemen and two others in a deadly attack around World Oil Filling Station at Ibafo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Witnesses said the robbers, numbering about 15, came in jeeps. On arrival, one of them shot a plain-clothed policeman straightaway.

The gunmen it was learnt engaged some policemen and vigilance group members at the filling station in a gun duel, shooting sporadically in a bid to crush the resistance and scare away people.

As a result, bullets flew round, hitting an unspecified number of people. Bizarrely, no reinforcement came from Ibafo Police Station, located less than a kilometre away from the scene.

Presently, the walls of the deserted filling station were riddled with bullet holes as hundreds of spent bullet littered the environment; an evidence of a horrific battle.

Only few weeks ago, robbers attacked Jimken Filling Station, a few metres away from this latest attack site, killing a customer.

The rate of robbery operations has increased nationwide in the past few months.

  1. The increase in crime rate is as a result of unemployment, the goverment are not doing anytin to tackle dis issue instead the d little people use in surving are been deprive frm d common man(fashola nd okada).wat do u expect.

  2. Unemployment? No! Robbers exploit the weakness in a system to unleash mayhem. They consider what they are doing a form of illegal job, like drugs, prostitution, etc. Governments' decisiveness and commitment to tackle and purnish law breakers is another factor. Then the proliferation of weapons into the Nigerian economy is a third and a time bomb to the country. It's obvious that the reason the policemen and others were killed was because they were held in a gun battle in which no reinforcemen came. While i dont suggest policemen be given heavy weaponry, i think reinforcements to their distress calls should be quick. The success or otherwise of a criminal act is not only dependent on the attitude of Government towards it but its preparedness. Guns are wisked into the country as if we feed on them. The wrath of the law is not brought to bear on the few that were ever caught in this illegal importation.. few if any are tried and convicted of the crime. Niger deltans are given free hand to import guns and ammunition, a responsibility solely bestowed on government but was transferred to private hands because Nigeria wants to practice government without responsibilty. Certainly without responsibilty all will fail.

  3. I have the so called government to blame for all these. Unemployment is on the increase and they do nothing to creat jobs not even providing enabling environments for people to go into self employment.

  4. We all concerned Nigerians need to offer prayer for Nigeria's freedom from the present crops of self-acclaimed leaders that are insensitive to the plight of the common people. We should not be discouraged, even though our Government have resolved to continue striping us of every means of livelihood under disguise of enacting irrelevant laws that continues to improvish the poor, increasing the gap between the rich and poor, protecting the elites and making the poor vulnorable. Unfortunately the urgly effects, such as increase in crime rate of these Government insensitivities is usually suffered by the masses. Our self-acclaimed leaders should be reminded that the present type of government system running is democracy that places power on the people only.

  5. why won't the rate of robbery increase when there are no jobs for the youths in this country

  6. Yes, unemployement. But loss of value in the system is the major cause. The elevation and glorification of ill gotten wealth above all other things is very much responsible. Look as how wealth is been over glorified irrespective of how such wealth was acquired.Money is now the god most people worship. Look at the churches and pastors and their teaching...

  7. Pls let them go to hell. Stop blaming govt forever for individual failures. U good guys r the ones encouraging these criminals with ur "its govt" shinanigan on everything wrong in the country. Its tough on everyone. So y am I not a thief? y. Am I not carrying weapons and killing innocent victims? Am not a gruaduate, no good degree so y am I not stealing. Pls let them go to hell n rot.

Inspite of the fact thst we have sad governance, nigeria can rise from the ashes if u and I innovate n strive to succeed inspite of the circumstances. Even in developed nations, there r theives so theives have no xcuse. They want a quick way to succeed.

Nigerians r known for their awesome intellectual ability, but we seem to also apply them in nothing but wrong doing. Wrong doing is the first thing in our minds n when we r doing right n its taking amlil while to make a break, we begin to act as though we're doing someone a favour for doing right.
