A 30-year-old man, Taoreed Oseni, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate's Court in Lagos for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year old girl, Azeez Titilayo.
Oseni was alleged to have raped Titilayo in a church toilet at Oshodi, a Lagos suburb.
The accused, whose residential address is unknown, is facing a one-count charge of rape.
Prosecuting Police Inspector Rachael Williams told the court that Oseni committed the offence on July 20.
She said the accused sexually assaulted the young girl in a toilet at the Methodist Church, Ogunlende Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi.
The accused, she said, forced his way into the toilet without the girl’s consent.
The offence, Williams said, is punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Law No. 11 Vol.44 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011. When the charges were read, Oseni pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate A.B. Olagbegi-Adelabu ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody till September 20.
It must hav happened wit her consent, otherwise she would hav screamed 4 help. A girl of dat age? Haba. Afterall, it waznt mentioned dat he was armed.

ReplyDeleteThe story didn't say somebody met them there.Probably,the girl raised alarm!Because the girl is 18yrs,so it looks impossible that she rejects sex.It's possible.All this men roaming round Lagos without having homes or wives....Na agro grip him..Poor man!
In my own view, i believe the girl has asked for something from the guy which the guy has not been able to meet up with. So she decided to report the sex ordeal between them. In other instance, i think they were caught in the act so the girl decided to change the story just to save her head.

ReplyDeleteThe act was a mutual act but I believe that the parents of the girl who may be top members of the church may be pushing this case as a face safing act.A church compound is not always lonely and the girl would have easily rescued if she had not corporated since the man was not armed.Moreover, Many parents parents always turn a case into rape once they do not like the person going out with their daughters even when it was a case of mature adults consenting to the act. This case must be properly handled by the court to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice. Uka agwula.

ReplyDeleteHow can any of you think that rape is somewhat or even remotely consentual because it happened? I don't understand your logic here. Rape has very little to do with sex it has everything to do with control and power, based on US studies, therefore it is safe to assume that it is quite a terrifying experience and does intimidate to an extreme extent the victim, they don't want to be murdered as well, so you would more than likely submit even though it is against your moral structure and conduct. The result is, an emotionally damaged person probably for the rest of their life, mentally it challenges you and physically it is an extreme abuse. I find that this is a severe problem abroad, not just in certain parts of the world. I believe it stems from a persons belief structure and what they perceive God to be. Be it known God does not condone such behavior and personally I think that anyone who does is in conflict with God and anyone who commits such an act is worthy of death. The only problem with that is certain women will falsely accuse a man and have him killed for whatever reason, thats why it is not a death penalty law in america. However, if I catch anyone attacking my family, you would have to kill me so as to stop me from administering justice. Women are not subserviant to men, they are equal beings, for without a woman man is nothing and likewise, you cannot produce one without the other. Until the world realizes that i fear women in general will always be looked upon as possessions and objects and weaker beings to be dominated. I warn you men of the world, whether you believe in God or not, does not disprove His existence, He is watching and will bring retribution upon the heads of the wicked. Shame on you men for not protecting women and their God given right to live and choose, for the freedom of choice is a God given institution. God will repay if your choice be noble or shameful, you will have to account for your deeds. These buildings made by the hands of men can and will be desecrated by the deeds of men, but the true sanctuary cannot be corrupted nor entered by the will of any man. There is a common problem in the world, Faith misplaced. Go to church, honor its place and forsake not yourselves the assembling of the children of God, but put your faith in the Holy of Holies and not in the buildings of men. Yes what was done is truly a disgrace but were you there? Did you see? How are you equal to God yet know not that God cannot be defiled, your fervor and zeal for the congregation is leading you to negative results. Re think and re establish your mindsets, God the Holy Ghost convicts you the people through this, you have no time to slumber, arise now. You have only made a highway to the destruction of your faith by mis placing it in a building rather than He who created the hands that built it. ReplyDeleteIt is very difficult for a man to rape a girl of 18 alone, even during the free willed sex if your partner refuses to grant you access the men we know that there is nothing on earth that can make you gain access, cos all she needs is just a slight shit and you are out and talk of struggling you have to beat her to hell before she can give up cos they have 9 lives. So its either it didn't happen or the girl is up to a bill that needs to be paid
