Arik Air bans 27 people from its flight to any destination

Arik Air on  Tuesday released a list of persons banned permanently from taking any of its operated flights to any destination.

Top on the list was the Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mr George Uriesi. The reasons given for the ban range from fighting Arik staff, disrupting Arik flight operations, to being declared wanted by security agencies.

The reason given for blacklisting FAAN Managing Director was simply “management Decision.” But aviation industry watchers know that there has been a running battle between FAAN management and Arik Air over unresolved debt issues which culminated last Thursday in Arik flight operations being shut down by aviation unions that claimed they were trying to recover the N17 billion Arik was owing the three aviation agencies.

Though the debt issue was temporarily resolved last Saturday after the intervention of the Federal Government through the Secretary to the Government of the federation, Chief Pius Anyim, this latest action by Arik shows that the issues are far from being resolved.

Other people blacklisted include Omojuwa Japhet, Victor Ogbondah, Lawal Lateef, Obayomi Osoba, Obiriki James, Guanah Raymos, a Somalian, Warsame Amed Abdulkair, a Sudanese, Abdel Rahman, Wala Eldin and Orji Daniel Ikechukwu, Grace Nkiruka Guobadia, Adesanya David, Uzoh Hilman, Davis Fasan Adesola, Musa Azeez Arisekola and others.

As at press time, the reaction of FAAN management and Federal Government was being awaited.

  1. The managing director of FAAN has nothing to lose by not flying Arik air. Their actions goes to show how high handed they are in resolving the debt issue. Just because some highly placed individuals have interests in Arik air has given them immunity from settling their debts. If Nigeria as a country allows this to continue I'm afraid we''ll be doomed knowing how top government officials own everything. For how long will it be business as usual?

  2. why not state the reasons for banning this people? for me i know its theft, Arik air is the only airline where stealing is prevalent....they stole my Mac Book Air laptop inside that plane and others have complained about thesame thing infact there was a time Nigerian eye even published one man that stole #200,000 inside the flight...if you are banning them call them thieves so that other airlines can ban them as well so that they can start taking Dan dollars or ifesinachi nite bus to where ever they are travelling to.

  3. Even though this isn't the kinda of news we all should be concerned abt right now, more abt the safety regulations of our airlines, Arik does have the legal backings to ban whoever they feel is a risk to their airline business.

MD make their life a living hell in all the airports. That Peter Odili & the rest think they are gods. Suspend their flights for the slightest infractions. If their flight desk has a long queue anounce flight cancellation and when everyone goes to get other flights then open it back up. Give them 9ger style too. They are just idiots that Arik
