El-Rufai to Jonathan: Quit if you can’t solve Nigeria’s problems

As the spate of violence escalates, particularly in the North, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to quit if he could not solve the growing security threats to lives and property in the country.

In an exclusive interview with Vanguard yesterday, el-Rufai said it was indefensible for the government to allow innocent souls to be slaughtered daily without any response from the administration. El-Rufai spoke against the backdrop of Chief Edwin Clark’s assertion that northern leaders were not doing enough to curtail the Boko Haram sect, apparently to bring down the administration.

While dismissing Clark’s allegation as untenable, the former minister warned the elder statesman to desist from making inflammatory and unverified statements capable of exposing him to ridicule instead of applause that he deserves at his age.
El-Rufai also asked the former federal information commissioner to desist from insulting northern leaders at the slightest opportunity.
According to him, Jonathan has already made it clear to Nigerians and the international community that the gale of bombings in the land was beyond the capability of his administration to handle, a situation, he described as unfortunate. He stated that other Nigerian heads of state had at different times and periods been confronted with serious challenges and they deployed appropriate state apparatus to deal with them without resorting to wrong quarters and the ordinary citizens for help. “Why is it that only President Jonathan cannot solve Nigeria’s security problem? el-Rufai asked.
“If he cannot do the job for which he was elected to do, he should consider going home. No president has ever sought the help of the ordinary people in tackling security problems in this country.
“The protection of lives and property of the citizens is the basis of any government in power and if the leadership has failed woefully to deploy the resources and information at its disposal to enforce coercive power for the benefit of the society, then it had no reason to stay on,” he stated.
He said the current situation in the country had made many Nigerians to be worried about the future of the country, warning that if urgent steps were not taken to reverse the dangerous trend, the country could be plunged into a deeper crisis.
On the controversy over the implementation of the budget, the former minister maintained that if the budget had worked, it would have brought some relief to the ordinary citizens who had almost been choked by the economic stagnation in the country. “Yes, all of us would have seen the results if the budget had been well implemented. A good economic system shows in the quality of lives of the people and does not end on the pages of newspapers,” he added. The former minister said the finance minister alone cannot change the current gloomy economic outlook in the country, as a tree cannot make a forest.
On the allegations that he was making noise preparatory to contesting the presidential election in 2015, he cautioned those making the claims to wait for 2015, pointing out however, that he was qualified to do so if he wanted.

I think what should bother Nasir el rufai now is peace in his region and how this would be achieved in the shortest possible time.Nigeria belongs to all of us and GEJ just happens to be the President and we should support him to succeed. Above all, we as northerners should find a lasting solution to our regional political problem.(Boko Haram)

  7. Dear Mallam , I agree with you that GEJ should do more , but that he should resign is begging the question . Also from the way you sound , it looks to me that there is more to all your tantrums in the recent time than meets the eye . It is either you have someone that is drummng for you in the bush or that you are eyeing 2015. Whatever it is , just note that , you and your Northern brothers have continued to hold this great nation hostage in the past 40 years or so and as such , you have better be ready this time around for the music shall be heard at all parts of this nation and the dancers will be many ... to before warned is to before armed.

  8. We need Middle-belt emancipation forum now. Our elders from the north would making a very serious mistake if they think that the north would embark on exodus journey riding on the back of middle belt.Dialogue is the key word right now.

  9. President Jonathan should resign to perfect the north's plan of making the country ungovernable for a southern president. Well we shall see how a northern president will fare when it gets to their turn to lead.

  10. Nasir El Rufia has just proven to Nigerians that he is one of the sponsors of Boko Haram. El Rufai shame on you a hundred times. The north has always been the problem of Nigeria. Remove the north and we have a better, more peacefull and developed country.

  11. Northerner won't get there.........They should continue their bombings & killings. They are destroying their region unknowingly because,Nigeria will still divide. This is hard truth to swallow!

  12. the way we are going means it will take a longer time for us to move forward. El-Rufai and others should be probed by EFCC and GEJ should pay adequate attention in retrieving stolen money and deploy to employing jobless Nigerians. Eliminate those connected with Boko Haram now otherwise we will regret in few months time. The earlier the better.

  13. shame on u El-rufia, your plans will never succeed, God will deal with u and all ur boko haram sect. God is watching and will surely act when d time comes

  14. El-Rufai has become very synonymous with public nuisance in this country. He always seeks any opportunity to throw jabs at the person of Mr President. How can anyone take seriously a man who rendered hundreds homeless in abuja in the name of master plan only to re-allocate same properties to wives and cronies. Must he be a political jobber just to get attention....? He will attack christians, CAN,PDP,President Jonathan and even the revered pastor Adeboye ...all in a desperate bid to boost his popularity profile. Not for oncehas he condemned Boko Haram& their activities!

Few years ago when in PDP he described buhari as perpetually unelectable but today he is crowning him Nigeria's messiah and only hope just because he is in CPC. A patroit will simply profer solutions whilst making constructive criticism. Maybe his rantings have become a tacit and cladestine solicititation for an appointment like his brother, Nuhu Ribadu!

  15. ON ABURI I STRONGLY STAND,THAT OLD 1966 JANUARY ACCORD IS STILL THE NIGERIA ANSWER TO NIGERIA PROBLEM,BELIEVE IT OR NOT.NIGERIA SHOULD PRACTICE CONFEDERATION SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT SO THAT THE ABUJA POWER WILL NO LONGER BE ATTRACTIVE.LET THE RIGIONS BE MORE POWERFUL THAN ABUJA AND PEACE WILL REIGN

  16. EDWIN CLARK MAY NOT HAVE BEEN 100% CORRECT BUT HE IS DEFINITELY ON POINT....
DURING THE DAYS OF THE NIGER DELTA MILITANCY YOU WILL NOT MEET A SOUT SOUTH LEADER AND HE WILL TELL YOU THAT HE DOES NOT KNOW WHO THE MILITANTS ARE.
WHY ARE ALL THE NORTHERN LEADERS INSISTING THAT THEY DONT KNOW WHOBOKO HARAM IS. THAT IS A BIG LIE AND IS FULL OF SHIT.
TH NORTHERNERS SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THEIR MESS. WHAT CAN GEJ DO IF THE NORTHERNERS HAVE DECIDED TO EXTERMINATE THEMSELVES UST TO MAKE THE COUNTRY UNGOVERNABLE. (WHICH WAS THEIR PROMISE SHOULD GEJ WIN.)

    ReplyDelete
  17. the point is that those that crtisize the north had never for once visited the region. BOKO HARAM is a state agender toward 2015 to enhance GEJ continuity or no nigeria. ISLAM does not accept killing and muslims/xtains doesnt kill. the berom (jos)and the Kajes(kaduna)are killing as well as fulanis. are they not xtains?. humanbeings are made react when pushed to the walls.

  18. My Oga El-Rufai , Please take it easy on the President , I personally know you mean well for the Presidant. It's just your quest and drive for change and a better Nigeria is what is driving you . I pray that the president and Nigerians see it the way i see it.My advice is that you should get closer to him regardless of which party you belong. This political party issues is really destroying our beautiful country . Please swallow your pride and take that bold step like the former EFCC man called Ribadu and join the team of advisers. Please let us work together regardless of tribe. Am Igbo by tribe born in Kano, and went to school in Zaira. I believe so much in this Country

  19. INCREASING THE PRESUR IS NOT THE ANSWER TO THIS PROBLEMS OF bOKO, OK, rUFAI SHOULD CONTRIBUT HIS BEST IF HE WANT,NO GOVERNMENT IS PERFECT IN THE WORLD IT TOOK US MANY YEARS TO DEAL WITH TPRRERIST AND THEY ARE STILL ON IT, IF ONE IF CAPABLE OF VITIATING SOMEONE'S IDEA YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ANOTHER IN PLACE OF THAT, EL RUFAI IS ONE THE MINISTER I RESPECT IN OBJ GOVT, BUT PLES WE SHOULD LOOOK FOR A WAY OUT, THE KILLING IS INCREASING EVERY DAY, I EXPECTED RUFAI TO COME WITH OTHER NORTHERN ELITES AND TELL BOKO TO PUT STOP NOW, OR FACE FEDERAL GOVMT. DURING OBJ GOVT, HE COULD NOT BRING OUT THE MILITANTS IN THE CREEK, YAR DUA DID THAT MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE, SO THAT IS GOVERNMENT 4 U, MY ADVICE EL RUFAI SHOULD CALL OTHER EMINENT NORTHERN, TO TALK TO BOKO, OR.

  20. Where has freedom of speech in Nigeria gone? El- Rufai only expressed his opinion re GEJ performance, which we know had been poor. Intolerance of freedom of speech is a major issue in Nigeria

    ReplyDelete
  21. What are the North Governors doing, are they just there to embezzle money or protect interest of people?
Boko-Haram sects are agents of hell fire cos no Religion supportS killing of innocent souls. Prophet Mohammed (SAW) never force anybody to Islam. Quran 9 verse 109 says "WHO IS A BETTER MAN, HE WHO FOUNDS HIS HOUSE ON THE FEAR OF ALLAH AND HIS GOOD PLEASURE, OR HE WHO BUILDS ON THE BRINK OF A CRUMBLING PRECIPICE, SO THAT IT WILL FALL WITH HIM INTO THE FIRE OF HELL? ALLAH DOES NOT GUIDE THE WRONGDOERS" WELL HELL FIRE IS NOT FOR TREES BUT FOR HUMAN BEINGS LIKE BOKO-HARAM SECTS WHO ENJOYS KILLING PEOPLE FOR THEIR SELFISH INTEREST. GOD HAS NOT ASKED BOKO HARAM SECTS TO FIGHT FOR HIM BY KILLING INNOCENT SOULS, GOD IS WATCHING YOU COS YOU'RE SATAN FOLLOWERS(BOKO-HARAM SECTS).

    ReplyDelete
  22. Instead of El-Rufai to start preaching to his dogs/goats(Boko-Haram sects) that killing is not the ultimate of bringing people to Islam rather discouraging people from accepting Islam. Islam is a Religion of Peace not violence. But their preachers are not ready to preach PEACE cos of their sponsors that keep enslaving less privileged among Hausas.
