Police defuse 617 bombs in four months in Kano

The police in Kano State have defused about 617 bombs since the Jan 20, 2012 coordinated bombings and armed attacks in Kano by the Boko Haram Islamic sect.

In a meeting with journalists in Kano on Thursday, the state police commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, said that policemen attached to the Explosives Ordinance Department defused about 600 cans of Improvised Explosive Devices and 17 drums of high calibre bombs since the Jan 20, 2012 terrorist attacks on security formations in the state.

Idris commended the officers attached to the newly created Explosives Ordinance Department and residents of Kano, who had offered information on packages and items suspected to be IEDs and bombs.

He said, “My men have been up and doing. They have lived up to expectation since the creation of the department. So far, we have been able to uncover and defuse about 600 IEDs in small cans and over 17 drums of bombs, the type which suicide bombers used in the Jan 20 attacks in the state.

“During the period under review, the command’s anti-bomb squad had succeeded in evacuating and defusing explosive devices at Kano State College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Kano, Kano University of Technology, Wudil, Gerawa Islamic Primary School and Ja’en Primary School.

“The bombs removed at College of Arts, Science and Remedial Studies, Kano and Kano State University of Technology were successfully defused without injury or damage.”

  3. You are an idiot i dont blame you. The northern Muslim have been unleashing terror since Jonathan election showing the rest of the country uncalled for hatred shamelessly and showing no remorse for their deeds. The northern leaders make light the issue and even cajole the public with such insulting talks that its PDP government Christians are also involved and the like. Its not our way we dont kill or maim bcos we are not blood thirsty,we are not that desperate politically, when others are in charge we humbly follow we dont bitter Christ did not teach us bitterness or revenge. But God is the avenger. All you people thought is that we are weak or not capable of doing same but far from that its not our teaching and absent from our spirit.
