1,000 Nigerians jailed in China

The Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said in Ilorin on Sunday, that about 1,000 Nigerian youths were being detained at various prisons in China for drug related offences.

He said he had already written to the Chinese government for details of their offences so that the Federal Government could use them as campaigns to dissuade young people from engaging in drug trafficking business.

He urged youths to stop engaging in drug and other illicit businesses, saying the risks and punishments outweighed the seeming benefits.

Abdulahi said many youths were attracted to drug trafficking in a bid to get quick wealth without knowing or appreciating the inherent dangers.

"The risks of drug trafficking far defeat the benefits, infact there is none. Whoever gets involved will get caught sooner than later and whatever the person might have acquired will go with it. So where is the benefit?

"The only way to good living is to be involved in legitimate business whereby nobody is running after you for committing an offence. "There is nothing like getting rich quick and there is no short cut to it," he said.

  4. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, you are a bloody liar. In Nigeria, there is something as getting rich quick... you know it and you are part of that system that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer...

In case you don't know, they serve good food in jail overseas and they have a place where one can lay his head... Would they rather die in bomb blasts and marginalization?

By the way, not all of them are held with proper trial. You should find out details about each Nigerian held in custody and act on a case by case basis. That is how other governments act...

Our government is so messed up!

  5. Nigeria is gradually sliding into a state of confusion and division... As it is, nobody is in any position to urge anybody.

The government is unable to handle Nigerians in Nigeria; not to talk of Nigerians in China. Mallam Bolaji has just made a stupid excuse why those Nigerians should be abandoned.

This generation of leadership is hopeless!
