Lagos Junior League kicks off September 17

The 2011/2012 season of the Lagos Junior soccer League begins next month with 58 clubs competing.
In a pre-season press briefing at the SWAN Secretariat yesterday, the executive secretary of the Lagos Junior League, Aromire Taofeek said the competing teams will be coming from the 57 Local governments in the state and one privately run club, Nathaniel Boys Club.

He said the league has been divided into three distinct divisions – the Premier division with 20 clubs, League One with 20 clubs and League 2 with 18 clubs.

Explaining the founding philosophy for the Lagos Junior League, Aromire said the state government floated the competition in furtherance of the its belief in identifying and developing budding talents from the school system .


“The ministry of education has the data of every player in the junior league because the participants pass through the school system. We want to eliminate age cheats in the system, accelerate government’s plan to encourage sports and education and above all, the league will see to the development of facilities in the state,” Aromire said.

The marketers of the league, Spur Sports were also unveiled to the sporting press.
In his speech, the managing director of Spur Sports Nigeria Limited, Sotonwa Oluwaseun said he needed the help of the media to reach out to prospective suitors in the corporate world and promised to make the Lagos Junior League a profitable venture for both the clubs and investors.
