CPC to sanction members forming alliance with other parties

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) says it will sanction any of its members who goes into an unauthorised alliance with any political party.
Rotimi Fashakin, the National Publicity Secretary, gave the warning in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
He was reacting to the alleged employment of some of the party members by the PDP-led Katsina State government.

The statement quoted Mr Fashakin as saying that "the party has no subsisting alliance with any party in Katsina State to the extent of being part of the state executive council."
He said that it would be inappropriate for the CPC to form an alliance with the PDP-led state government because the gubernatorial election in the state is still a subject of litigation at the State Election Petition Tribunal.
Mr Fashakin said the party's leadership has resolved "to sanction any of its members with proven evidence of unauthorised alliance with other political parties that is capable of bringing the party to disrepute."
He added that an investigative process of infraction against the party's laid down guidelines by its members had commenced.
He urged the supporters to remain committed to the CPC ideology, adding that its present "travails shall ultimately be its stepping stones to greater glory."
"There is no gainsaying the fact that the time to show greater commitment to the ideals that the CPC stands for is now."
