Adeboye advises journalists to verify stories before publication

GENERAL Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has again challenged Nigerian journalists to always verify their stories before rushing to press, arguing that balanced reporting was the hallmark of responsible journalism.

Responding to recent petition by a family member of the founding father of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Adeboye, urged the Nigerian media to take advantage of recently passed Freedom of Information Act, to always verify the facts available to them before going to press.

The petitioner had accused Adeboye of lack of transparency as he was said to have bought the Redemption Camp grounds in his personal name and that of his wife, while using church funds to develop the property.
Apparently irked by the allegation that the land on which the sprawling Redemption Camp is situated, was bought in his name and that of his wife, the renowned pastor said any journalist worth that name should be able to go to the relevant office at the Ogun State Secretariat to verify such information.

A source close to the General Overseer who was privy to the meeting between the Akindayomi Family and the Adeboye’s  at the Redemption Camp where the latter dissociated itself from the antics of the petitioner, Mr. Abiodun Olukowajo, told Vanguard, yesterday, that the RCCG first family merely directed all enquiries about the land transaction to the Ogun State Ministry of Lands.

The sources said:“You know that we pay every year, ground rents and other charges. Journalists should be able to investigate in whose names such payments were made regularly.”
