4 first bank staff accused of Fraud!

Four staff of First Bank in Calabar, Cross River State, are standing trial at a Calabar Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing from a customer's account using different tricks.

The four, who risk dismissal by the management of the bank if found guilty, appeared in court on Friday, 17th June, 2011, accused of illegally withdrawing on different occasions various sums of money belonging to Chibuike Nwogu, a long-standing customer of the bank.


Those arraigned over a three-count charge of conspiracy and stealing are Ikpeme Emmanuel Moses (29), Aniekan Etim (31), Jonny Ekaete Udofia (28) and Lydia Attah, (38).

At the Chief Magistrate Court Two, Moore Road, Calabar presided over by chief magistrate Emmanuel Ekokim, police prosecutor Edum Daniel in suit No. MC/465/2011, said the accused allegedly "on the 14th day of April, 2011 at First Bank Calabar, in the Calabar Magisterial District did unlawfully conspire amongst yourselves with intent to commit felony to wit by stealing thereby committing an offence punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code cap C16 vol 111".

The second count alleged that Ikpeme Emmanuel Moses on the said date stole the sum of N50,000 (fifty thousand naira) from Current Account number 1202010078551, property of Chibuike Nwogu, thus committing an offence punishable under section 390 (9) Laws of Cross River State.
On count three, the four were accused of lodging a First Bank cheque slip with Account Number 1202010078551, property of the same Chibuike Nwogu, and stealing his money which is punishable under section 467 of the Criminal Code.

Count three alleged that Anieka Edet on the 28th of April, at First Bank Calabar N20,000 (twenty thousand naira) from the said bank account.
The four accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges read to them and were released on bail and the case adjourned to July 6, 2011.
