Daniel quits contest for senate, dumps PDP

Supporters of Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, yesterday, finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and joined the Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of PPN, Alhaji Raheem Ajayi, confirmed that Daniel’s faction had dumped the PDP for his party declaring that Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the governorship candidate of the Daniel’s faction had’become its official candidate.

Alhaji Ajayi, a Special Adviser to Daniel in the statement announced the welcoming of the Daniel faction to its fold last night.

He said: “The National Executive Council welcomes into its fold, the good people of Ogun State. We are particularly happy to have with us, eminent personalities with proven integrity who are ready to team up with PPN in the struggle for the emancipation of Nigerian People. PPN is aware of the unfortunate situation in most of the parties especially in Ogun State PDP, where one character, a self-styled god-father teamed up with a drug baron, who is wanted in the US and UK, have negatively influenced the judiciary also aided by the dysfunctionality of PDP and robbed the genuine candidates of their mandates having won at the party primaries.

“We promise the people of Ogun State that what we stand for in PPN, is justice, equity and fairness. The fast paced development witnessed in the last eight years in Ogun State under the able leadership of Governor Gbenga Daniel will continue. We affirm that Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) is our gubernatorial candidate for the April general elections and the party has equally adopted His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR) as its Presidential candidate”

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Gbenro Adebanjo, however, insisted that Governor Daniel remained a member of the PDP and would continue in his duties as Southwest coordinator of the Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign.

He said: “No, OGD is still a member of PDP and the coordinator of the Goodluck Sambo Presidential Campaign.”

It was also confirmed yesterday that Daniel would not be pursuing his dream of going to the Senate.
